Irrational Exuberance is a now-dormant project put together in Ohio by Tom, Dave, and Quint. Tom and Dave worked together professionally and forged a musical relationship in the early 90s, at the height of the grunge era. Those influences found their way into the tones and feels of this project.

After moving from his hometown of Chillicothe, Ohio, to the Dayton area, Dave met Quint professionally at The Mead Corporation. Their mutual love of the music of the day led to an artistic collaboration that birthed Irrational Exuberance. They reached out to Tom to complete the musical lineup and the band was born.

The name of the band, obviously, comes from Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan’s comments on the overly-frothy economy at the time, whereby he just didn’t understand all this “irrational exuberance.” In the band’s case, Quint provided a good deal of the irrationality and exuberance.

Over a 6 week period in the fall of 2001, Dave and Quint spent many evenings in Quint’s basement studio with a single SM58 hanging from the ceiling to capture a great number jams, many of which became segments or song ideas for the tracks on “Spin the Moon.” Once they had sifted through those raw tracks, the three joined up and began the process of arranging material, adding lyrics and studio tracking. Quint did a good deal of the final mixing, and this led to a finished release of “Spin the Moon” in April of 2002 (thank you, CDBaby).

The name “Spin the Moon” has its origin in the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton near the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. One of the displays in 2001 was a tribute to space flight and the role of the Air Force in those monumental achievements. The display included a five foot circumference model of the moon, with a large hand written sign just beyond reach, stating “Please Do NOT spin the moon!” The rest, as they say, was history.

Today, life has taken each of the members of Irrational Exuberance their various directions. Tom and his wife Amy live in Upper Arlington, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, where Tom is an energy consultant and entrepreneur. Dave and his wife Jennifer live in Mount Pleasant, SC, a suburb of Charleston, SC, where they are also entrepreneurs. Dave also has continued his musical career (see daverocks.net). Quint and his wife Pam live with their two kids in the Virginia Beach area where Quint and Pam are project managers for healthcare and IT related firms.
